The Big Bang Theory
1. About how long ago did the Big Bang take place?
The Big Bang took place about 13.7 billion years ago.

2. What is a black hole?
A black hole is an area of intense gravitational pressure.

3. Does the universe continue to expand?
The universe does continue to expand. The theory says that the universe began as an infinitesimal singularity that expanded and cooled and to this day it continues to do so.

4. Was there really a big bang?
There was really no explosion but rather an expansion which continues to grow.

5. What light elements seem to support the Big Bang Theory?
Elements that support the Big Bang Theory are Hydrogen and Helium.

Time keeps on slippin'
1) What is the current calendar most of the world uses / accepts? Explain who made it and why this is accepted.
The Georgian Calender, also known as the Western Calender or Christian Calender, is the mostly used calender. It was created by Pope Gregory Xlll on Feb. 25, 1582 and was accepted because the previous Julian Calendar was incorrect.

10) What is an eon, epoch, era, and age?
An eon is the longest division of geological time.
An epoch is a long period of time marked by a predominant or important person.
An era is a long period of time.

11) List three ancient calendars.
Three ancient calendars are the stonehenge, the Egyptian calendar, and Aztec calendar stone.

17) If it’s 10:00 AM in Regina, what time is it in Toronto? London? Moscow? Tokyo? Hawaii?
It would be 11:00 am in Toronto, 4:00 pm in London, 7:00 pm in Moscow, 1:00 am in Tokyo, and 6:00 am in Hawaii.

18) What is Daylight Saving Time? Do we use this in Saskatchewan?
Daylight saving time is when clocks are set one hour or more ahead of standard time to provide more daylight at the end of the working day during late spring, summer, and early fall. It is not used in Saskatchewan.

19) Is there a year zero?
No there is not a year zero.

20) Are we starting a new decade in 2010 or 2011?
We are starting a new decade in 2011.

21) What is linear time?
Linear time is a concept where by time is seen sequentially, as a series of events that are leading toward something: beginning, and an end.

22) What is cyclical time?
Time that repeats itself in circular motion.
